It appears that Square Enix, the developers famed for their graphically rich and narratively strong role-playing games, aren’t intending to hit the brakes on their HD-2D remakes anytime soon. This news comes straight from the horse’s mouth as Masaaki Hayasaka, the producer of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, expressed his desire to breathe new life into another beloved Square Enix title. The final decision on what comes next lies with Square Enix, but Hayasaka’s personal favourite for the team’s next project is none other than the classic, Final Fantasy VI.

During a recent conversation, Hayasaka was asked which title might be next on the drawing board for the Square Enix team. After finishing their acclaimed work on Dragon Quest III and Live A Live, the iconic developer has yet to announce definitive plans for their future ventures. However, Hayasaka expressed his hope for an adoption of the legendary Final Fantasy VI into the world of HD-2D. He stated, “While we have no solid plans yet, I have to say, my personal choice would definitely be Final Fantasy VI.”

Octopath Traveler, acclaimed for being Square Enix’s pioneer HD-2D title, drew much of its inspiration from Final Fantasy VI. The developer referenced the highest-quality pixel art in the industry when working on the former, shaping its unforgettable graphical style. Elucidating his point, Hayasaka said, “It would indeed be intriguing to reimagine the game we referenced in the state-of-the-art HD-2D art style.”

Just last week, the gaming world celebrated the launch of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, a game turning heads and raising eyebrows with its innovative design and vivid graphics. The gaming community is buzzing with anticipation as the first two games of the RPG franchise are also slated to undergo a similar transformation in the coming year. Emphasizing the excitement surrounding this news, Yuji Horii, Dragon Quest series creator, expressed his belief that playing the Erdrick trilogy in the sequence of 3 to 1 to 2 would provide hours of delightful gaming for fans.

Final Fantasy VI, one of Square Enix’s flagship creations, holds firm in the hearts of gaming enthusiasts. Launched on the SNES in 1994, the game is considered among the most outstanding RPGs of all time and not merely within the sphere of the Final Fantasy series. While it is currently available as part of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, with the potential of an HD-2D revamp, there is mounting excitement about what the game might look like in its all-new avatar.

For those intrigued by the recent work of Square Enix, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake warrants a look-in. This ambitious reimagination of the RPG classic has been making waves both for its innovative revamping of iconic content and its engaging twists on gameplay, marking a new era in Square Enix’s history.
