The gaming world never ceases to captivate audiences with each new release, and the forthcoming game, “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” is no exception to this rule. During a recent reveal at SXSW, gamers were given a glimpse into what the much-anticipated sequel has to offer.
Scheduled for release on June 26th, exclusively for the PlayStation 5, the game is priced at $69.99. Pre-orders began on March 17th, with individuals who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition for $79.99 or the Collector’s Edition for an exquisite $229.99 gaining early access on June 24th.
The revelatory 10-minute trailer was presented by none other than Hideo Kojima himself, the critically acclaimed creator of the game. The footage invites the audience into a bizarre world, opening with an intense dialogue between two characters, one of whom is named Neil, portrayed by the acclaimed Italian actor Luca Marinelli.
Post-argument, the trailer presents viewers with a sequence of captivating scenes featuring Sam, played by American actor Norman Reedus, as he traverses treacherous landscapes under daunting weather conditions, carrying his cargo and the “BB”. These dynamics are coupled with thrilling encounters with the game’s notorious grotesque monsters.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is lavish with star power. The trailer features a range of familiar faces from the glamorous world of Hollywood. Prominent figures gracing the characters include Léa Seydoux as Fragile, George Miller as Tarman, Troy Baker as Higgs, Elle Fanning as Tomorrow, Fatih Akin as Dollamn, Shioli Kutsuna as Rainy, Alastair Duncan as The President, Alissa Jung as Lucy, Nicholas Winding Refn as Heartman, and Debra Wilson as Doctor.
One particular scene from the trailer that has been sparking interest and curiosity among gamers is that of Neil wearing a bandana – an accessory reminiscent of Solid Snake, the primary character Kojima’s iconic Metal Gear Solid series. To intensify the suspense, the trailer provides eerie shots of Neil’s face alternating with a skull image.
In addition to the game’s anticipation, Kojima has also unveiled “The Strands of Harmony World Tour.” This unique concert tour, featuring 19 cities, is aimed to celebrate the alluring music of Death Stranding. The music will come alive onstage, performed by a live orchestra and singers, with the tour commencing on November 8th, 2025, in Sydney, Australia.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach signifies a crucial milestone in the gaming journey of Hideo Kojima. It is the direct sequel to the 2019 hit game, Death Stranding, where Kojima, known for the celebrated Metal Gear Solid series, made his debut as an independent gaming studio. The original game’s phenomenal success led to a director’s cut, multiple ports, and an upcoming live-action film in collaboration with A24.
Aside from the extraordinaire that is Death Stranding 2: On the beach, Kojima’s studio is also involved in two other intriguing projects. One is a gripping horror game for Xbox, titled OD, starring Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer. The studio is also developing a project shrouded in mystery, tentatively codenamed PHYSINT, an “action espionage” game.
The captivating world of gaming continues to evolve and surprise, and it’s releases like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach that keep the excitement alive. As we wait with bated breath for its release, one thing is for certain – this is a game that promises to be every bit as unfathomably audacious as its predecessor, making it a contender for one of the most exciting releases of the year.
