The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally been launched, accompanied by the release of the game’s soundtrack. Christopher Larkin, the composer, has made the soundtrack purchasable via Bandcamp for $11.99. It is also available on the Steam platform for the same price. Users have the opportunity to buy both the game, typically priced at $20, and the soundtrack at a discounted price of $25.58.
The Silksong soundtrack boasts an impressive 53 tracks. When compared to the Hollow Knight’s original soundtrack that comprised of 26 tracks, the size of the Silksong soundtrack doubles it. There was another music release, titled “Hollow Knight: Gods & Nightmares”, which consisted of 15 tracks from the original game’s DLC. Silksong’s soundtrack evidently trumps the original game and its DLC in terms of size.
Notably, the Hollow Knight soundtrack and the Gods & Nightmares release are currently streaming on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. However, there has been no official announcement regarding the streaming availability of the Silksong soundtrack at this time. Remarkably, the Hollow Knight original soundtrack was released as a vinyl record, and it is still available for purchase.
Larkin, who has also composed the music for the original Hollow Knight and its DLC, has a video game discography that includes soundtracks for Pac-Man 256, Outfolded, and the soon-to-be-released Moonlighter 2. On Larkin’s website, the Silksong musical score is described as extending on the established musical world of Hollow Knight, encompassing everything from subtle melancholic tones to heart-thumping, soul-stirring boss themes.
Players of the game are, of course, immersing themselves in this music by playing the game, which has already registered high concurrent player numbers on Steam. The explosive launch even led to technical problems for various stores, including Steam, PSN, Xbox, and Nintendo eShop. Hence, fans can not only hear the music through their gaming experience but also acquire the soundtrack if they wish to enjoy it separately.
Owners of the soundtrack receive a deeper, more personal connection to the game. Whether they’re reminiscing over integral plot moments or simply immersing themselves in the atmospheric tunes during an otherwise ordinary day, having possession of the soundtrack allows them to take a piece of the Hollow Knight: Silksong world with them wherever they go.
