It’s confirmed. Onion Games has at last proclaimed the much-anticipated release date for the English version of its renowned game, Stray Children. Gamers across the globe are set to immerse themselves in this role-playing game (RPG) on the Nintendo Switch and PC, via Steam, starting October 30.

This exciting announcement brings an end to the wait for gamers around the world, eager to explore this game by the end of the current month. Originally, Stray Children was released in Japan, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, on December 26 the previous year. However, following the announcement of an additional PC version through Steam, it was also revealed that not only Japanese but also English versions would be available.

The official trailer revealing the English release date for Stray Children can be found online. For further insight into the game and its creation, there’s an interesting interview with Yoshiro Kimura of Onion Games, the creative force behind this title.

Based in Tokyo, Onion Games, an independent studio, has gained popularity for its poignant fairytale RPG, Stray Children. It has been crafted by many former team members who also developed the equally sentimental cult classic, moon: Remix RPG Adventure. They made headlines with their 2021 re-release of this 1997 creation.

Having already made contributions to cult favorites like Chulip, Little King’s Story, Rule of Rose, and Super Mario RPG, the industry veterans at Onion Games have an impressive portfolio of unique titles, including the enigmatic rogue-lite puzzler, Dandy Dungeon, the dramatic side-scrolling shooter, Black Bird, the one-button arcade thrill, Mon Amour, and the whimsical mobile game, Million Onion Hotel.

Stray Children’s narrative starts in a clandestine room within a secretive location. A curious boy finds an old gaming console and flips the switch, unknowingly transporting him into a long-forgotten and never-released retro RPG. He finds himself in a world inhabited only by children, surrounded by ‘The Olders’ — monstrous adults burdened by self-doubt, inadequacies, and other grown-up problems. Amid these anomalous, humorous, and perilous surroundings, your unique adventure commences.

【About Stray Children】

Stray Children is a bittersweet fairytale RPG from Tokyo-based independent studio Onion Games. Best known for their 2021 re-release of 1997’s moon: Remix RPG Adventure, Stray Children is being created by a number of former team members behind that similarly bittersweet cult classic.

Following their contributions to other beloved cult favorites like Chulip, Little King’s Story, Rule of Rose, and Super Mario RPG, the industry veterans at Onion Games have also released eccentric and entirely idiosyncratic titles like the puzzling rogue-lite Dandy Dungeon, the operatic side-scrolling shooter Black Bird, the one-button arcade kiss-em-up Mon Amour, and the mobile game madness of Million Onion Hotel.

【The Story】

Somewhere, in a secret room, in a secret place, a curious boy flips the switch of a dusty old console. He’s suddenly pulled through the screen into a very strange somewhere else: a never-released and long-forgotten retro RPG.

He blinks awake in a land where only Children live. Outside their stronghold’s walls lurk The Olders: monstrous adults carrying the heavy load of their own inadequacies, self-doubt, and the many other grievances that all grown-ups gather.

It’s here — in this funny, mysterious, and wildly dangerous domain — that your story begins.
