Director of Rune Factory 4, Shinichi Manabe, is at the helm of a brand new venture. Having also served as the chief programmer for Rune Factory 3, he’s recently initiated a Kickstarter campaign for his latest project, Farnia Life. This new life simulation cum action RPG is scheduled for release on PC through the Steam platform, with an optimistic view of venturing onto consoles at a later date, funding permitting. The target has been set at five million yen, equivalent to around $32,880 USD.

Manabe’s dynamic team for Farnia Life comprises of various notable contributors. From the narrative writer of Rune Factory 3 and 4, Takanori Tsuji, to a trio of creative character designers, benitama, kannnu, and BOKI simole. Additionally, some of the game’s music scores are being composed by Tomoko Morita from Studio Qareeb. Manabe is the heart of the project, spearheading the majority of the game’s development himself, covering all areas from coding, modelling, animation, to creating pixel art, sound effects, and game data. With such a breadth of responsibilities, he ensures that the game will be delivered meticulously, albeit not instantly. The estimated delivery window is set for September 2028.

Drawn into a world woven with fantasy and the romantic lure of idyllic village life, Farnia Life propels its players into an enchanting narrative. Set in a tranquil village, players are individuals with no recollection of their past, other than their own names, given a small home to start their new lives. The game encourages players to dabble in myriad activities like farming, fishing, cooking, and forging. Inviting aspects of romance, pet care, exploration, and even the teaching of life’s simpler joys, like enjoying a meal, to a mysterious girl.

Players are invited to till and cultivate their fields, go forth and fish, learn the art of culinary creation, forge, and fall in love. They’re expected to take care of their pets, explore the world outside their village, and share their knowledge of life’s joys with an unacquainted girl. Game elements also include farming and adventuring, fighting tough adversaries in a variety of dungeons. Game seasons cycle and players can also challenge themselves in the Dark Queen’s castle and ever-changing ruins, teaming up with other villagers and tamed beasts.

The game also teases an aspect of romance with its depiction of daily life and yearly festivals celebrated in tandem with the villagers. Activities and requests help build relationships, and one can even go on adventures with them, wine and dine, and potentially exchange marital vows. This paves the way for a life in Farnia Village that is uniquely carved by each player.
