Renowned German actor Udo Kier has passed away at the age of 81. His partner, Delbert McBride, confirmed the news. With a diverse range of film and television credits spanning decades, Kier is perhaps best recognized for his roles in horror classics such as Mark of the Devil, Flesh for Frankenstein, and Blood for Dracula during the ’70s.

Kier broke into Hollywood in 1991 with My Own Private Idaho, and went on to feature in prominent movies and music videos. He participated in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Johnny Mnemonic, Armageddon, and even music videos with the pop icon, Madonna.

In more recent times, Kier was scheduled to appear in the anticipated horror game OD overseen by Hideo Kijoma. Despite Kier’s passing, new scenes including Kier were planned for filming in 2026. Kojima communicated often with Kier, maintaining a regular correspondence.

Kojima expressed his devastation at the loss in a digital statement. ‘I’m at a loss for words,’ Kojima wrote. ‘The sequence of events unfolded far too abruptly. Due to a strike, the OD production was put on hold for a significant period, leading us to postpone to the following year. Despite the circumstances, Udo and I kept contact and exchanged emails frequently. I recall our last meeting in Milan at the end of September, where he conveyed his anticipation for the restart of the shoot next year.’

Kier was also recognized for his role as the legendary antagonist Yuri in the live-action segments of the Red Alert 2 and its expansion, Yuri’s Revenge, part of the Command & Conquer franchise. He also lent his unique voice to in-game characters for Call of Duty: WWII and Martha is Dead.
