The publisher Panic, in collaboration with developer Shaun Inman, has recently announced the exciting launch of Ratcheteer DX, a lo-fi pixel art action adventure game. The game is set to hit the shelves for Switch, PC and Mac via Steam, as well as Mac via the Mac App Store, on March 5. A fascinating news for the fans is the launch discount price of $9.75, valid for a limited time, making the game more affordable from its original price tag of $12.99.
A sneak peek into the game is already accessible to fans as there is a PC demo available now. The progress made on the demo version will be transferred to the full game, thus ensuring a seamless transition for the gamers.
An intriguing feature about Ratcheteer DX is that it is an improved version of 2022’s Playdate Season One title, Ratcheteer. The updated edition now presents the game in color, with various visual filters, and an unforgettable CD-quality stereo soundtrack. Moreover, the game is now available in several new languages, thus broadening its global horizon.
The game scenario is set in a striking environment where a forever winter has forced humans to take refuge underground. The player steps into the shoes of a young and naive mechanic, tasked with exploring various regions and dungeons. Across these daunting terrains, players will encounter amiable strangers, discover new tools, and confront challenging bosses.
The adventure begins with a young mechanic groping in the dark, realising that Power Plant and Water Treatment Plant are offline and the Cryo Colony is in danger. What starts as a simple errand to collect your mentor’s wrench initiates a twisty journey through the underground caverns, spiraling upwards to a vast Snowcean, rescuing friends, foes, and strangers equally.
Throughout this thrilling journey, players will find and master eight unlikely tools, each paving way for new exploratory paths. The adventure starts with the Crank Lantern, to light the mechanic’s initial journey into the darkness and the Wrench Sword to combat whatever is lurking in it. By the time players reach the end, they will be involved in bounding, drilling, gliding, stomping, and dashing across the world of the Ratcheteer.
The game offers more than 250 rooms spread across six regions and six dungeons to explore. One can expect to challenge six unique bosses and maybe even grasp an alien language. Game features are designed to accommodate diversity: full Color, Pea Soup green, Playdate gray, or high contrast black-and-white (with optional scanline, grid, and dot overlays). The CD-quality stereo sound compliments Matthew Grimm’s 8-bit masterpiece and an original story is offered in 10 supported languages.
