Published on the 3rd of February, 2026, the iconic 5v5 mode in Highguard has been met with a massive wave of applause. As a result, the game development company, Wildlight Entertainment, made an announcement that this mode is now going to remain in the game permanently.

The decision came after an influential figure named Claire Lewis made a passionate plea for the 5v5 mode in Highguard to transition from temporary to permanent. It appears that her views mirrored those of the larger player community, providing a significant push towards this decision.

A statement from the developers following the announcement described an almost balance of opinion in favor of both 3v3 and 5v5 modes over the weekend. In their official press release, they went as far as to describe the response from the Highguard community as ‘overwhelming’. The decision was met with widespread approval, with fans lauding the shift.

A Reddit user, referred to as MuriloVeratti, mentioned the superiority of 5v5 mode, stating its immediate and considerable improvement. Another user proposed keeping 5v5 as the casual mode while retaining 3v3 mode for more strategic, ranked play. Wildlight Entertainment’s quick action and responsiveness to the community have been commended by the user Friendly_Cowboy as truly remarkable.

On Steam, upon launch, Highguard fetched close to 100,000 concurrent players, according to data from SteamDB. Although there was a dip in these numbers in the hours following the launch and over the span of a week, it has found a steady base with a 24-hour peak of 8,000 players. This indicates a level of sustained interest, excluding the crowd of console players.

Even though the game review had a less than stellar impression of the previous 3v3 mode, there is strong anticipation to see if the introduction of the larger team size can rekindle the interest of previously disappointed players. Only time can provide the answer to that pressing query.
