Renowned developer Drinkbox Studios has officially announced the fall 2026 release of Blighted, their highly anticipated 3D Metroidvania action RPG. It was previously confirmed that the game would grace the screen of PC gamers. Now, the developers have revealed plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 release too.

Blighted is more than just another drop in the bucket from the creators of famed titles like Nobody Saves the World and Guacamelee!. The narrative threads a trippy western nightmare, where players are set on the quest of recovering the memories of their community. It was a tradition to bury the deceased in this unique world, with seeds planted in their brain. The resulting trees would bear fruit saturated with the memories of the deceased, keeping their wisdom alive for generations.

However, a character called Sorcisto has disrupted this harmonious cycle. He consumed the brains raw, gorging on their power and knowledge, which led to him devouring the whole village. In the process, he destroyed the symbolic forest and introduced the world to a deadly plague known as Blight.

Players take on the character of the village’s single survivor, striving against the odds to recover their forebears’ memories before falling prey to the Blight. The Blight itself is a double-edged sword; on the one hand, it acts as a power source, while on the other hand, it poses a severe threat. It forms a dynamic difficulty structure, influencing the player, adversaries, and the environment.

Blighted boasts a combat mechanism that requires players to measure their attacks, string together combinations, and conduct forceful finishers. The game will also support a drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer system, adding to its appeal. Making for a unique and thrilling gaming experience, Blighted is set to be a highlight for PC and Switch 2 gamers in the fall of 2026.
