Popular online game Highguard is officially drawing to a close, with developer Wildlight signaling the game’s final offline date as March 12. This outcome was, unfortunately, anticipated, due to the increasingly reduced player base and a minimal operations team left behind subsequent to extensive company layoffs.
Once host to over two million gamers, Highguard was a beacon of imagination and virtual camaraderie for devoted players across the globe. Despite this connection, Wildlight concedes its inability to foster a sustainable player base to guarantee the game’s long-term existence.
Until its imminent closure, Highguard will remain accessible to its audience. Wildlight invites players to return on the battlefield for a last hoorah, to relish in the fleeting moments of the thrilling matches that once were the core essence of this gaming universe.
As a parting gift, Highguard will roll out a final update, projected to hit the gaming scene around March 3 or 4. This update will introduce a fresh Warden into the gameplay, unveil a brand new weapon, and incorporate an account level progression system along with skill trees. Players and fans can expect detailed patch notes to be released to the public in the near future.
The team at Wildlight extends heartfelt thanks to their loyal player base for participating in and supporting this ambitious project. It is, indeed, with a heavy heart that they bid farewell to the world of Highguard.
Preparation had been underway for a stream of DLC for Highguard over the forthcoming year, which unfortunately will not see the light of day. With its lukewarm reception and below-par ratings, critics were unimpressed, and often called Highguard ‘not ready for primetime’.
Highguard was first revealed to the public during The Game Awards in December 2025. Amid speculation following the silence from Wildlight, the game was eventually released on January 26, 2026. It experienced significant popularity at launch, boasting nearly 100,000 concurrent players. However, the initial momentum came to an abrupt halt, with current records showing fewer than 500 concurrent players on the game today.
