Digimon Story: Time Stranger Hits Nintendo Switch

Bandai Namco has officially brought Digimon Story: Time Stranger to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, giving Nintendo players a chance to jump into the latest entry in the long-running monster-collecting RPG series. After previously launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the game is now available across Nintendo’s platforms in multiple digital editions, expanding its reach to a wider audience of RPG fans.

This release marks an important step for the franchise on Nintendo hardware, especially for players who enjoy portable play. A newly released launch trailer highlights exactly that appeal, showing the game being played in handheld mode while drawing visual inspiration from Shinjuku Central Park, one of the recognizable locations featured in the adventure. The trailer emphasizes the game’s blend of real-world urban environments and digital fantasy, a combination that has long helped define the Digimon series.

Developed by h.a.n.d., Inc., Digimon Story: Time Stranger is designed as a visually impressive role-playing game that focuses on collecting, raising, and battling a huge roster of Digimon. Players can encounter more than 450 Digimon throughout the game, offering a deep progression system for those who enjoy building teams, experimenting with evolutions, and customizing strategies for battle. That large creature roster is one of the game’s biggest selling points, especially for longtime fans who want variety and for newcomers looking for a rich monster-raising experience.

The story places players in the role of an agent of ADAMAS, caught in a crisis that threatens both the human world and the digital world. With both realities nearing collapse, the player must work alongside Digimon companions to uncover the truth behind the disaster and find a way to save everything before it is too late. The narrative leans into themes of connection, partnership, and time-spanning conflict, giving the game a dramatic setup that supports both character-driven storytelling and large-scale stakes.

Combat is built around strategic turn-based battles, encouraging players to think carefully about team composition, Digimon abilities, and evolution paths. Rather than relying purely on flashy presentation, the game aims to reward planning and long-term investment in your party. Building bonds with Digimon is central to progression, and those relationships help unlock stronger forms and better combat potential. For players who enjoy RPG systems with depth, that combination of taming, training, and tactical combat should be a major draw.

Bandai Namco is also positioning the game as an accessible starting point for newcomers to the series. While veteran Digimon fans will likely appreciate the broad roster and familiar themes, the structure and presentation are intended to welcome RPG players who may be discovering Digimon for the first time. That makes this release especially notable on Nintendo platforms, where portable-friendly RPGs often find a strong audience.

Nintendo Switch 2 players also get extra technical options. On the newer hardware, the game includes both Quality Mode and Performance Mode. Quality Mode supports up to 4K HDR at up to 30 frames per second while docked, and Full HD at up to 30 frames per second in handheld mode. Performance Mode targets Full HD at up to 60 frames per second in both docked and handheld play. Those options should give players flexibility depending on whether they prefer sharper visuals or smoother gameplay.

In addition to the base game, Bandai Namco is offering a Season Pass for both Switch and Switch 2 versions. The pass includes the Golden Moai farm item, which can be used to decorate the Digifarm, along with three DLC packs. Each of those packs adds five more Digimon and an extra story episode, giving players additional content beyond the main campaign. The DLC will also be sold separately, with releases scheduled weekly after launch. DLC Pack 1, Alternate Dimension, arrives on July 16. DLC Pack 2, GAKU-RAN, follows on July 23. DLC Pack 3, Anti-ParadoX, is set for July 30, 2026.

Players can choose from three digital editions on Nintendo systems. The Standard Edition includes the base game, Uniform of a Certain School costumes, an Adventure Item set, and Agumon (Black) and Gabumon (Black). The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Cyber Sleuth Set Costumes and the Season Pass. The Digital Ultimate Edition includes everything from the Deluxe package, plus a Costume Pack with three costumes per character and three additional side missions, early unlocks for special Agumon and Gabumon with specific Digivolution conditions already opened, Public Safety Suit Costumes, a Special Supplies Set, and the Cyber Sleuth BGM Pack.

With its mix of story-driven RPG progression, a massive Digimon lineup, updated battle systems, and the flexibility of Nintendo play, Digimon Story: Time Stranger looks positioned to appeal to both dedicated fans and players simply looking for a substantial anime-inspired adventure. Whether you want to explore its world on a TV or take the experience on the go, the Nintendo release adds another strong option for anyone interested in collecting monsters, building bonds, and battling across worlds and time.
