Falcom and GungHo have released version 1.07 for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, and this update is a meaningful one for both longtime fans and newcomers. Known as the Legacy Patch, the new update focuses heavily on localization consistency, terminology revisions, voice line adjustments, and general polish. Rather than introducing major gameplay changes, this patch is aimed at making the game fit more naturally alongside later entries in the broader Trails series while also improving the overall presentation.
The biggest focus of the update is its effort to align in-game terminology with the language used across other titles in the franchise. This is especially important for players who plan to continue through the series, since terminology differences can create confusion when moving from one game to the next. Falcom and GungHo say the goal was to smooth that transition and strengthen continuity, particularly with the next chapter on the horizon.
As part of that effort, the English localization has been revised in several areas. Certain text and voiced lines now use legacy terminology that better matches established naming conventions from later games. English UI and system text have also been updated to reflect these choices, helping create a more unified experience across menus, battle systems, and story content. In addition, some dialogue has been rewritten to correct grammatical issues and improve the natural flow of conversations.
Several major terms have been changed. Among the most noticeable are quartz-related names, which now better match terminology familiar to series veterans. For example, Arts Defense has been renamed Shield, Sweet Aroma is now Scent, Heat Haze has been shortened to Haze, Hidden Leaf has become Cloak, and Heavenly Insight is now Revelation. These changes may seem small on paper, but they can have a substantial impact for players who value consistency in a long-running RPG franchise with extensive lore and interconnected mechanics.
The patch also updates the names of the Tetracyclic Towers, a particularly important adjustment because these locations play a major role in the story moving forward. Jade Tower is now Esmelas Tower, Amber Tower becomes Amberl Tower, Crimson Tower changes to Carnelia Tower, and Azure Tower is now Sapphirl Tower. According to the update notes, these names were revised because of their significance in the next chapter, making it more important to bring them in line with the terminology used in the original games and the wider series.
A number of other terms have been revised as well. Orbal golem is now Archaism, Hundred Day War has been corrected to Hundred Days War, Lord of the lake has been changed to Guardian of the lake, Exposure quartz is now Photo-quartz, Bitter Tomato becomes Acerbic Tomato, and Grand Charine has been updated to Grand Chardonnay. Some fish names were also altered, with Orosho becoming Tiger Rockfish, Samona becoming Salmon, Silver Smelt changing to Kasagin, and other similar tweaks included to improve consistency.
Voice pronunciation has also received attention. Several proper nouns now use pronunciations that better align with the rest of the series, including Liberl, Calvard, Zin, Loewe, Hamel, Auslese, and Zemuria. Not every affected voice line could be re-recorded or revised, but the developers note that most of them have been updated. This should help the game sound more cohesive for players familiar with later entries.
Beyond English, the patch includes smaller localization improvements for French and German. These adjustments were made for accuracy and consistency, showing that the update was not limited to one language. While these revisions are more minor than the English changes, they still reflect a broader effort to improve the game’s presentation across regions.
The update also includes bug fixes. The developers addressed issues that could cause crashes due to insufficient memory, along with other crashes tied to certain operations. Miscellaneous text errors and other minor bugs were fixed as well. These technical improvements may not be as headline-grabbing as the terminology changes, but they are important for overall stability and player experience.
For players who prefer the previous localization and terminology, there is still an option available on Steam. A separate 1.06.3 branch has been created that preserves the earlier version of the game. That means players on PC can choose whether they want the updated legacy terminology or the original release version. This is a thoughtful compromise, especially for those who already began their playthrough before the patch arrived or simply prefer the earlier wording.
Overall, version 1.07 is less about adding flashy new content and more about refining the foundation of the experience. It improves consistency, strengthens continuity with future entries, fixes technical issues, and polishes the localization in ways that should matter to dedicated fans. With the next chapter approaching, this patch feels like a deliberate step toward making the journey through the series smoother and more cohesive.

Thank you for your continuous support for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. We are grateful for all the feedback we have received since launch and are now excited to announce that a Legacy Patch has been released as part of the Ver. 1.07 update. Ahead of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter’s release on September 17th, 2026, this localization update aligns key terminology with other entries in the Trails series.
Alongside our partners at Nihon Falcom, our goal for this patch was to ease the transition between Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and later Trails titles. To achieve this, we prioritized updates to English terminology and pronunciations of terms based on how much they impacted continuity across the series.
We felt this was an important step in our goal to honor the expansive world-building of Trails and make Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter an accessible starting point for the series.
In our ongoing commitment to delivering the best experience possible, this Legacy Patch includes the following adjustments:
Localization Update Overview
- Updated certain English voice and text to reflect legacy terminology
- Updated certain English voice to reflect legacy pronunciations

Adjusted English Terminology
Several major terms have been adjusted to align with terminology used in later titles in the series. Our overall goal with these updates was to align key in-game terminology and pronunciations with other titles in the Trails series. However, with the upcoming release of 2nd Chapter, we also felt it was important to preserve the experience of players who started the series with Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter as much as possible. With that goal in mind, terminology and character names exclusive to the Trails in the Sky games have been largely left unchanged.
A notable exception is the names of the Tetracyclic Towers, as these locations play a pivotal role in the story of 2nd Chapter, and thus have been adjusted to match the original games.
