Mother 3 English Language Patch Out This Week

Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan) on the SNES was pretty awesome, it was an original take on the RPG genre. Turns out it didn’t sell so well in the U.S., though. Then, in 2006 Mother 3 was released in Japan for the GBA. U.S. fans hoped and prayed and protested for a North American release, to no avail. Apparently NoA felt the game just wouldn’t sell well enough. Nate Bihldorff, the Nintendo of America Localization Producer/Manager confirmed he was not working on localizing Mother 3, which just made matters worse. It was sad times in the Earthbound community, as if millions of Earthbound fans voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

However, there was hope. A group of fans got together and decided to translate the game themselves. A lot of time and effort was put into it, and it looks like the patch will be out at the end of the week. Now all you have to do is illegally download the ROM (is it really illegal if I would have never bought the game anyway because it’s in Japanese?).

    After Playing a little Bit of this mother game, I must say I am impressed thus far. I haven’t played much. I basically saved a little boy and was covered in soot. Boy was it worth it though. This game totally feels like an old snes style RPG. I have played some other RPG’s that have this style but they don’t seem to capture the feeling. This one does capture the feeling so far. My most obvious comparison at the moment is clearly Chrono Trigger. I recommend that people get their hands on this game.

    Did I mention that your post for this was rather intense. I hate when a million voices are silenced. Having played this I can understand the feelings of fans of the series. I would prefer to play this on a gameboy(rather than a computer), or even better, have it as a download on the Wii. That would be the best. I guess my cries of horror will just be silenced.
