Today, I am sharing a difficult announcement. In our pursuit to better serve our users, business, and mission, we have taken the unfortunate step to reduce our workforce by 17%, letting go of 170 talented colleagues. Over the last few years, our company has grown significantly and while we’ve made remarkable strides in serving our many users, we expanded our workforce too quickly which impacted our operational efficiency. To better streamline and bring agility to our organization, we are making the decision to reduce our workforce, confident it will support our long-term goals and mission.

Everyone will be informed of their individual circumstances through an email by 10:30 a.m. PT, followed by a leadership meeting with departing team members to discuss next steps. For remaining employees, we will convene at 1:00 p.m. PT to discuss the path ahead. I understand anxiety and questions are natural in these circumstances, and we want to ensure everyone feels informed and supported.

Our departing team members have significantly contributed to Discord and it’s heartbreaking to bid farewell. We’re committed to supporting them through this transition with five months of salary and benefits, three months of outplacement services, future equity vesting, and continued access to Modern Health until the end of 2024. We are deeply grateful for their work and passion they’ve injected into our organization, and hope the relationships formed within our walls will endure beyond their tenure here. Please take care during this challenging time.
