Square Enix confirmed a series of DDoS attacks on the popular MMORPG FFXIV between August 23-25, 2024, that affected Data Centers and disrupted gameplay globally. The company responded promptly, trying to mitigate the attacks and keep disruption at a minimum, with two major assaults causing trouble for users trying to log in and play the game – one lasting two hours, and another, shorter event that lasted just 30 minutes. These attacks came after a significant assault in May 2024 and were addressed in a Producer Live Letter by Yoshida, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to resolving such issues.

The game, Final Fantasy XIV – alongside the Dawntrail expansion – is available across several platforms like PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Despite these challenges, Square Enix and the team were proactive in communicating with players and ensuring the best possible plan to deal with these instances of disruption to ensure seamless gameplay experiences for the players.
