The success of the video game Arc Raiders far surpassed the expectations of Nexon, its publisher, recording 14 million copies sold and nearly one million concurrent players at a peak last month. The announcement was made in Nexon’s latest financial report, which highlighted how their popular extraction shooter game has surpassed expectations, boasting approximately six million weekly active players.
The player peak in January alone was roughly 960,000 players online simultaneously, a striking number, particularly given it is three months after its October 30, 2025, debut. Keeping its prominent position on Steam’s Top Sellers list, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox, since the launch, the game continues to exhibit exceptional player retention and strong metrics.
Developed by Swedish company, Embark Studios, headed by a former team from Battlefield producer DICE, Arc Raiders had an explosive launch last year. The video game shifted four million copies in less than two weeks and had reached 12 million by the beginning of January. Fast forward another month, Arc Raiders can now claim two million additional sales. Despite a slight decline in the player count according to Steamcharts figures – showing a dip below 250,000 concurrent players for the first time in the current week, the overall player sentiment remains positive.
Players have continued to stand by the game, even as it experiences a series of item duplication glitches. Just recently, Embark Studios received praise from fans for swiftly addressing a new set of exploits, despite a new inventory glitch appearing in their place.
In an effort to combat reported instances of cheating, Embark has endeavored to ensure its players stay engaged with regular gameplay adjustments, new content, and a four-month roadmap. As part of their post-launch plan, they’re currently mid-way through their ‘Headwinds’ update. An upcoming chapter, ‘Shrouded Sky’, is set to introduce new map conditions and an Arc threat later this month. Much can be learned from the chats the gaming community has had with Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund regarding the trajectory of Arc Raiders.
While today’s financial report from Nexon made no mention of their rumored StarCraft shooter project, the company’s success with Arc Raiders cannot be overstated.
