Monster Hunter Wilds Demo Out Now

Capcom has released a new playable demo for Monster Hunter Wilds on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, giving players a chance to experience the opening portion of the game before committing to the full release. The demo focuses on the early hours of the adventure and is designed to let both newcomers and longtime hunters get familiar with the world, combat systems, and progression loop that define the series.

One of the biggest highlights of this demo is that it includes the beginning of the story in Offline Mode. Players can explore the early campaign content through the start of Chapter 1-3, titled “To the Forest.” That means this is more than a short combat trial or limited arena showcase. It offers a meaningful slice of the full experience, allowing players to engage with the game’s opening narrative, learn the basics of hunting, and get a feel for how the world and its systems are structured.

Capcom is also giving players access to the full character creation suite in the demo. For many fans, that is a major part of the experience, since building a hunter that feels personal is often the first step in a long journey. Being able to spend time crafting a character before launch pressure sets in is a welcome feature, especially for players who like to fine-tune every detail of their appearance before diving deeper into the game.

The demo also includes all 14 weapon types, which is a significant draw for anyone trying to decide what style suits them best. Monster Hunter is known for offering dramatically different weapon identities, from fast and agile options to slower, heavier tools that reward precision and timing. Letting players test every weapon in the demo gives them room to experiment without restriction. Whether someone prefers the mobility of dual blades, the reach of a longsword, the heavy impact of a hammer, or the technical complexity of a charge blade, the demo provides a strong opportunity to find a favorite before the full game begins.

Another major feature is save data transfer. Progress made in the demo can carry over into the full game, as long as players continue on the same platform. That makes the demo especially appealing because time spent creating a character, learning mechanics, and progressing through the early story will not be wasted. Instead of restarting from scratch, players can move directly into the complete version and continue their journey seamlessly.

Alongside the demo release, Capcom has also introduced a permanent price reduction for the base game, bringing its MSRP to $39.99. This lower entry point could make the game more attractive to players who were waiting for a better deal before jumping in. In addition to the new standard pricing, Capcom has outlined several updated product options for players interested in cosmetic add-ons and bundled content.

The newly announced Gold Edition is priced at $79.99 and includes the full game along with the Cosmetic DLC Collection. That collection, priced separately at $59.99, bundles together 10 DLC packs and includes the Extras Cosmetic DLC Pack. The Extras pack is also available on its own for $29.99 and contains paid cosmetic content that had previously only been sold as separate items. These new purchasing options are meant to simplify the lineup for players who want the game plus a larger share of its optional cosmetic content.

At the same time, Capcom is phasing out some older bundle options. The previous Deluxe Edition, Premium Deluxe Edition, and Cosmetic DLC Pass bundles are being sunset. Players who already own those versions will still be able to use their content, and individual DLC items will continue to be sold separately. This change appears to be more about streamlining the storefront than removing access from existing customers.

Beyond the demo and product updates, Capcom has also shared details about the competitive side of the game. The Monster Hunter Wilds Championship – Global Exhibition is scheduled for September 2026. The event will bring together top hunting duos that qualify through regional tournaments in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Taiwan. The best teams from those regions will compete on a global stage, representing both themselves and their local communities.

To support that competitive push, two new Challenge Quests are now available from the Quest Counter: “Event: Dreams May Soar” and “Event: Unchained Arkveld.” These quests give players a chance to sharpen their skills, improve their clear times, and compare their performance with the kind of high-level play expected from championship contenders. For players who enjoy optimizing builds, mastering monster patterns, and chasing faster completions, these quests should offer a compelling extra challenge.

Capcom also confirmed that the game is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, though no release timing has been announced yet. Looking even further ahead, the company says more information about the major expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, will be revealed later. That expansion is currently planned for release in 2027, suggesting that Capcom has a long-term roadmap in place for continued support.

Overall, this demo release is a substantial update for anyone interested in the game. With early story content, full weapon access, character creation, and transferable save data, it offers a meaningful preview rather than a limited tease. Combined with lower pricing, revised DLC bundles, new challenge content, and future plans for competition and expansion, Capcom is clearly positioning the game for both immediate accessibility and long-term engagement.
