Sins Of A Solar Empire 2, a 4X-strategy game, is set to release on Steam this summer, announced by Stardock and Ironclad Games. The game initially saw early access on the Epic Games Store a few years ago. The original Sins was well-received, particularly enjoying the balance between micro and macro management and the integration of a robust zoom feature. The sequel sees a comeback of the original three factions, with the same key control mechanics but with added nuances.
Significant changes in the gameplay allow planets to orbit stars in real-time, influencing tactics. Subfactions are introduced, each embodying different ideologies and associated features—such as the TEC: Primacy being xenophobes, and the Vasari: Exodus treating planets as dispensable. A new Intelligent Construction system has been incorporated to fulfill building requests sequentially. Fleets can also request reinforcements, which are assembled automatically at the nearest factory—a feature inspired by Warzone 2100.
Enhancements have also been made to real-time fleet combat allowing for more efficient missile defense and protection to delicate ships. Additional modifications include customizable capital ships, starbases, a diplomacy system, and new minor factions for dynamic interactions. Each faction boasts a unique Empire System—TEC Trade, Vasari Phase Resilience and Advent Unity—that defines their roles and functionality within the game. The game also supports multiplayer mode with provisions for players to join ongoing games and substitute for AI rulers.
