MIX Games and Wallride are set to launch their latest NES game, Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland, next month. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PS4/PS5, Switch, PC and potentially Xbox One and Series X|S starting September 10, 2024. The notable aspect about the game is its compatibility with the NES console, along with an HD overlay for modern versions, offering a visual experience similar to the actual cartoon. Additionally, it includes a two-player co-op and a game play similar to Super Mario Bros. 2.
Based on a demo run, the game seems generally satisfactory, although there are concerns that its co-op ambitions could limit the experience considering the significant demands its large sprites could put on the NES hardware. The potential outcomes could be fewer enemies or more flicker. However, the possibility of a puzzle-centered game has sparked some interest. Despite the lack of personal nostalgia for the Rugrats show, anticipation for the full version of the game remains high with hopes that it would outperform the likes of Garbage Pail Kids.
Despite not having any personal affinity for Rugrats due to lack of access to Nickelodeon during childhood, Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland has generated excitement for many gamers. It’s noteworthy to mention that the game’s official release will be on a wide array of platforms inclusive of PS4, PS5, Switch, PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One from September 10, 2024.
